AAMC - Association of American Medical Colleges
Dear Colleagues,
Following the expansion of the AAMC Fee Assistance Program to include Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) residency applicants that I shared with you in November, I am pleased to announce that the AAMC is also establishing a new fee structure for the 2025 ERAS residency season. This important update builds on our commitment to supporting learners throughout their journey from premed to residency and beyond.
Under this new simplified structure, residency applicants will pay $11 per application for up to 30 applications and a $30 fee per application for 31 or more applications. This fee model restarts with any new specialty for those who choose to use the ERAS platform to apply to multiple specialties.
Number of Applications Cost Per Application
1-30 $11
31 or more $30
This change will have a significant impact as we anticipate most applicants will see discounts of up to 36%.
The new fee structure – part of a broader AAMC effort to address residency application costs and improve the transition to residency – is guided by research and input from the medical education community, learners, and finance experts. We have updated the ERAS application to enable applicants to share more about themselves with programs, and provided programs with holistic review tools to help them identify applicants whose goals align with their mission. Through our collaboration with Thalamus, we are creating greater efficiencies and more transparency in the overall process for applicants, programs, and schools through comprehensive interview management and better data and analytics.
These collective actions underscore the AAMC’s unwavering commitment to addressing serious challenges in the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education and working across all specialties and programs to build a strong, diverse future physician workforce.
Sincerely,
David J. Skorton, MD
